I never have picked up a Twilight book and I don't think I ever will (vampire romance not really my scene) but it's one of the most popular series in teen culture today. I sometimes feel left out because I can't bring myself to want to read any of these books.
The Twilight series is about a human named Bella and a vampire named Edward who is a century-old vampire in a 17-year-old body. Edward is intoxicated with Bella's sweet blood and the romance just kind of drags on through four books I guess. But in the middle of the book, it's really focused on the two characters being deeply in love and them trying hard to keep their pants on and not have sex (damn just do it already if it's that hard). Pretty much this plotline has captured the attention of fans that are obsessed with their relationship and their strength to say no to sex.
Now let's get to the most disturbing part of these books. While their romance drags on, we move quickly to Breaking Dawn. Now in Breaking Dawn, Bella and Edward finally go all the way after they got married and now Edward is 19. Bella on the other hand is pretty much like a '50's housewife and Edward has turned her into a vampire. Now the most disturbing scene of this story is the honeymoon scene where Edward "makes love" violently to Bella. Suprisingly enough Bella loved it even though she is covered in bruises and she tries to hide her bruises so Edward doesn't feel bad.
I'm sorry but since when is "making love" mean hurting your spouse? Maybe if I read the book I would see it differently but so far, I don't really understand why anybody would find this series so interesting. But what also disturbs me is the fans reactions to the scene. Most weren't upset because of the violent sex scene but the fact that they had sex in the first place. Because like our society believes, sex is the most immoral thing to do.
I'm just livid and angry typing this crap so if you wish to read the full story about the Twilight series, follow the below link to BitchMagazine.org
